Tezos X Previewnet live: EVM and Michelson share a ledger for first time

Tezos X Previewnet goes live

Tezos X Previewnet has gone live, marking the first public testnet environment where developers can experiment/develop with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and Michelson contracts that interact directly with each other on a common ledger. In contrast to other multi-chain ecosystems that rely on separate/independent chains, bridges, and wrapped assets, Tezos X combines both ecosystems from the beginning with “runtime atomic composability,” meaning that actions between different types of contracts can be completed simultaneously in one transaction or none at all.

What Tezos X Previewnet offers developers

Tezos X Previewnet provides Solidity developers the opportunity to work with their existing EVM tools while also taking advantage of Michelson’s formal verification capabilities. At the same time, Michelson developers can directly access EVM-based users, assets, and liquidity without using external bridge infrastructure. This creates a unified design space in which applications can be built with both EVM and Michelson environments that seamlessly interoperate within the same transaction flow.

Main Tezos X Previewnet features

  • Native atomic composability between EVM and Michelson contracts; both contracts can interact in a single transaction.
  • Asset transfer between EVM and Michelson environments with no bridges or other wrapping required (across the shared ledger).
  • Formal verification through Michelson contracts remains available, thus providing stronger guarantees where they matter most.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted tooling makes formal methods increasingly accessible to builders.

Use case example

A person using MetaMask (an Ethereum-compatible wallet) and holding USDC can interact directly with a Michelson-based ticketing platform priced in tez. For instance, the payment and purchase occur together, atomically, in a single transaction (no bridging, no wrapping, no loose ends). Easy.

What’s next

The preview (test) phase will allow developers to build and deploy code for Tezos X on the Tezos network, as well as to challenge assumptions under real-world conditions. Going forward, assuming that all goes well in this phase, an Etherlink governance proposal is expected around June 2026. Once approved by bakers, Tezos X will move to mainnet with both interfaces live and composable from day one.

How to get involved

Developers can start deploying their contracts on the Tezos X Previewnet right away. Nevertheless, feedback and questions can be shared in the dedicated Tezos X channel on Tezos Discord.
