The crypto industry is in mourning. Ondo Finance has announced the loss of its founder and CEO, Nathan Allman, who passed away suddenly. His team shared the sad news on 05/25/2026, through Ondo’s X official account, though no official cause has yet been revealed. The team expressed their condolences, “Our hearts are with his family and loved ones.”

Before starting Ondo in 2021 to help people invest in real-world assets (RWAs) through digital tokens, He was a key part of the Digital Assets team at Goldman Sachs. Nathan was a real pioneer in the crypto space, known for bridging the gap between traditional finance (TradFi) and blockchain technology.

A smooth transition to new leadership

Stepping in as the new CEO is Ian De Bode, a move the company says was part of a long-term plan rather than a last-minute scramble. Ian joined the team in late 2023 and has been heavily involved in running things as President since last November. In this context, with a background leading digital asset projects at McKinsey, Ian brings a mix of professional consulting experience and hands-on crypto knowledge to the role.

In a heartfelt statement, Ondo Finance shared its confidence in Ian’s ability to keep Nathan’s vision alive. While the team is clearly hurting from the loss, they pointed out that Nathan had built a very strong foundation, making this transition a natural next step for the company during a difficult time.

Ondo’s role in the world of real-world assets

With Nathan leading the way, Ondo became a big player in turning physical assets into digital ones you can trade. Their main projects include a digital fund backed by U.S. government bonds and a special kind of stablecoin that actually pays you interest. Recently, they even started doing this with stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). They’ve teamed up with big names like JPMorgan and Franklin Templeton, making sure everything they do follows the official financial rules.

The ONDO token, with a limit of 10 billion total, acts as a voting chip for the community. It lets holders have a say in how the whole project is run.

Nathan Allman: Community reactions and what’s next

The crypto world is pretty shaken up by Nathan’s passing, with lots of people sharing how much they respected his vision for RWAs. Now, everyone is keeping an eye on whether this change in leadership might slow down Ondo’s plans for new products or cross-chain growth.

The big question is how the company will handle those high-level partnerships Nathan managed, and if the new team will need to hit the brakes briefly to regroup.
