Negative commentary about Ethereum (ETH) is widespread across social media platforms as the digital currency struggles to cross above the psychological resistance level at $2,000. The bearish views come despite ETH inflows being steady, L2 activity, and protocol upgrades. However, the silver lining of this pessimism is that when it is at its peak, it has provided ETH with a setup for a strong turnaround.
ETH commentary turns bearish for the third time in a month
The crypto community is losing hope on Ethereum, as it has not been able to cross above the $2,000 resistance level. The negative comments on social media platforms have reached bearish levels for the third time in the past month alone compared to the positive comments.
ETH rebounded after commentary on social media hit extreme negative levels
However, historic data shows that during the past couple of times when the negativity hit these peak levels, ETH rebounded by +14% and +7%, respectively. As such, this time too there could be a turning point coming soon for ETH.
Despite the pessimistic comments, spot ETH ETF net flows have turned positive, indicating that investors are once again allocating capital to Ethereum through regulated investment products. Positive net inflows suggest buying demand is outweighing selling pressure, often reflecting improving institutional confidence and long-term accumulation.
ETH trades inside a head and shoulders pattern
Meanwhile, the chart below shows that ETH is forming a head and shoulders pattern, a classic bearish reversal formation that often appears after a sustained uptrend. The pattern consists of three peaks—the left shoulder, a higher peak known as the head, and a lower right shoulder—all connected by a support level called the neckline. ETH has already formed the left shoulder and the head.
Now that the price has pulled back to the neckline, this level will be closely watched, as a rebound could pave the way for the formation of the right shoulder, while a decisive break below the neckline would confirm the bearish reversal pattern.
