About Stacks

Stacks (STX) is the native token of Stacks, a Bitcoin layer that brings smart contracts and decentralized applications to Bitcoin. The network lets developers build apps that can use Bitcoin as an asset while settling activity back to Bitcoin’s base chain. STX supports network activity, miner incentives, and participation across the Stacks ecosystem. Stacks uses Proof of Transfer, a consensus design where miners spend BTC to compete for STX rewards. This links the network to Bitcoin while allowing Stacks to read Bitcoin state through its architecture and Clarity smart contract language. Clarity helps developers write contracts with clearer execution rules before deployment. Stacks also focuses on Bitcoin-based DeFi and assets controlled by BTC addresses. Its planned sBTC asset aims to let users move Bitcoin into Stacks through a decentralized, one-to-one backed model. Stacks transactions settle to Bitcoin, and the network uses Bitcoin’s security for final ordering across blocks today.
