Sui is a proof-of-stake Layer-1 blockchain built for fast, low-latency transactions and clear ownership of on-chain assets. Mysten Labs, formed by former Meta Diem engineers, designed Sui to handle many transactions at once, which can keep apps responsive during heavy use. The SUI token runs the network’s economy. Users pay gas fees in SUI when they move assets or interact with smart contracts, and those fees cover computation and storage updates. Validators and delegators stake SUI to secure the chain and receive protocol rewards. Holders can also vote on governance to change upgrades and parameters. SUI is used in the ecosystem to provide liquidity for DeFi trading and lending, and can be found in NFTs and game items that require fast settlement. SUI pays for fees and incentives to wallets, bridges, and indexers. Sponsored transactions and zkLogin can make using apps easier, but it's up to the apps.
