World Foundation announced it had raised $52.5 million through a strategic WLD token sale with a 12-month lockup, led by Pantera Capital. The funding will expand World ID infrastructure as AI transforms the internet. More than 39 million people have joined World Network, with over 18 million verified by an Orb. World ID is being integrated with Zoom, DocuSign, Okta, and Tinder.
The Proof-of-Human mission
World’s mission is to provide a reliable way to distinguish humans from machines as AI agents proliferate. Without it, advertising models become unreliable, dating platforms are flooded with synthetic profiles, voting systems become difficult to validate, and video calls become vulnerable to deepfakes.
Getting a World ID is easy: just a quick, one-time check at an Orb and you are set. It lives right on your phone, so you can prove you are human online without giving up your privacy. Behind the scenes, it uses advanced cryptography and anonymized multi-party computation developed and open-sourced by the World Foundation.
Pantera Capital General Partner Cosmo Jiang said: “The need for Proof of Human is becoming acutely clear with the acceleration of AI development.”
World ID 4.0 and enterprise adoption
The investment comes as World shifts from building the network to scaling utility. World ID 4.0 is an enterprise-ready infrastructure capable of supporting high-scale integrations and enables independent developers to build virtually any other credential using zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) within the World ID stack.
Plus, the World Foundation is making sure the whole protocol pays for itself; instead of charging users, the project is setting up a system where apps pay the fees.
The strategic Token sale playbook
World Foundation’s $52.5 million raise is part of a broader capital strategy that highlights how crypto projects fund operations without minting new tokens or diluting supply. WLD has a hard cap of 10 billion tokens, and governance-controlled inflation isn’t available until after 2038, so every operational dollar must come from selling tokens already held.
This adds to a previous $135 million sale back in May led by a16z and Bain Capital Crypto, and a separate $65 million over-the-counter (OTC) sale in March 2026 that moved roughly 239 million WLD at an average price of $0.27 each, bringing the total raised by the World ecosystem to about $492.5 million.
The 12-month lockup on this round is notably longer than the six-month restriction from the March sale, signaling stronger investor commitment. It is a good sign that they are in it for the long haul, but it is still worth keeping an eye on the unlock schedules, especially with some other restrictions lifting in September 2026.
The foundation also confirmed this is a “first close,” suggesting more capital could follow. Eightco Holdings has raised funds specifically to make WLD a primary asset in its corporate treasury, and Grayscale just filed an S-1 registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for a spot Worldcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF).
For WLD hodlers, this whole strategy helps keep the token price steady while giving the foundation the resources it needs to keep moving forward.
