Google, on Friday, said that its AI tools and services have been recieved with massive enthusiasm across its international userbase. In a series of updates following its stellar 2026 Q1 report, Google said that a billion images have been generated through its Nano Banana 2 service which is a part of its Gemini AI platform.
Google’s Nano Banana 1 was launched as an advanced AI-fueled image generation and photo editing service within Gemini. Based on accurate text prompts, the tool rose to popularity for its ability to create high quality images and advanced fulfil editing requirements.
The tool was upgraded to its second version that was rolled out in February this year with improved speed of image generation, high fidelity output, and more refined character consistency.
According to Google, the billion image generation milestone via Nano Banana 2 was achieved in “nearly half the time it took Nano Banana 1.”
The AI hype has become only louder in the last two years, especially after OpenAI introduced the world to the generative AI technology on a wide scale with ChatGPT. In order to compete for relevancy in the arena, tech giants like Microsoft and Google among others ramped up efforts to put their best products out in the market.
Google, after introducing Gemini in 2024, has been consistently loading its Large Language Model (LLM) with advanced features. Its aim was to lay out AI tools to cater to different user needs.
In February, Gemini upgraded its conversational AI music creator Lyria to its third update. The tool is capable of generating 30-second sound tracks based on text or image prompts.
Google has claimed that in the last two months, Lyria 3 has been tapped to create over 150 million songs.
Similarly, Google’s Gemma 4, which is its lightweight, open-weights AI models for on-device performance, has clocked 50 million downloads within a few weeks of its launch.
“Q1 was our strongest subscription quarter ever for our consumer AI plans — with overall paid subscriptions reaching 350 million including YouTube,” said the search engine giant outlining the progress in its AI ventures.
Earlier this week, Google’s parent company Alphabet declared $109.9 billion as its 2026 Q1 revenue — clocking a YoY growth of 22 percent. Its net income spiked by 81 percent YoY to hit $62.6 billion driven by an explosion in AI adoption and cloud services growth.
The search engine giant has officially moved its generative AI search experience out of the experimental “Labs” phase and into the general search results for users worldwide. Google CEO Sundar Pichai, at the earnings call, said that these AI capabilities have spiked Search revenue by 19 percent logging an all-time high in Search queries.
“Next, we are bringing helpful AI into the hands of billions of people every day through our products and platforms. We continue to invest in improvements to AI Overviews, which are driving overall Search growth, and we are also seeing strong growth in both users and usage of AI Mode globally,” Pichai said.
This week, Google also finalized a deal with the Pentagon in the U.S. to let the federal defense agency access its AI systems within secure government environments.
