The Ethereum Foundation has added longtime community contributor and security researcher pcaversaccio, better known as “pc,” to its board, expanding the leadership team responsible for guiding the organization behind the Ethereum blockchain.

The appointment comes as the Foundation continues to evolve its governance structure, placing more emphasis on security, privacy and the network’s long-term sustainability.

pcaversaccio will serve a one-year voluntary term initially. He is well known in the Ethereum community for his work in smart contract security, and is co-founder of SEAL 911, an emergency response initiative that helps blockchain projects respond to hacks and security incidents.

He also has been part of the Ethereum Foundation’s Silviculture Society, an advisory group that helps guide the preservation of the Foundation’s core values such as censorship resistance, open-source development, privacy and security.

Board guides ethereum foundation’s long-term strategy

The Foundation board is now composed of four members: Aya Miyaguchi, Vitalik Buterin, Patrick Storchenegger and pcaversaccio.

The Foundation said the board is responsible for setting the long-term strategic direction of the Foundation and for ensuring the Foundation’s major decisions are aligned with Ethereum’s mission. It also serves as a security council, assisting in protecting the Foundation’s goals while ensuring it is in line with Swiss law where the organization is based.

The move highlights the increasing relevance of security knowledge as ethereum continues to evolve.

Why is the appointment significant?

Over the years, Ethereum has gone from a platform for developers to the foundation of a huge ecosystem that includes decentralised finance (DeFi), stablecoins, NFTs, tokenised real-world assets, and blockchain-based applications. As the volume of value moving through the network has increased, so has the need to defend that infrastructure.

That’s made security researchers some of the ecosystem’s most valuable contributors.

For years, pcaversaccio has been uncovering vulnerabilities in smart contracts, collaborating with developers on security research and helping projects to harden their code prior to exploits. Through SEAL 911, he’s also helped coordinate emergency response when security incidents occur across the industry.

“His appointment brings that practical technical experience directly to the Foundation’s leadership.”

The move is also emblematic of an effort from the Ethereum Foundation to bolster its governance, while remaining close to the developer community. But this time the Foundation aren’t just looking for executives or lawyers — they’re bringing in someone who has spent years contributing to Ethereum’s technical ecosystem.

As Ethereum scales and institutional adoption grows, security, governance and network resilience decisions are becoming increasingly important.

The Foundation’s appointment of a respected security researcher to its board signals that protecting the network and ensuring its core principles will remain a key part of the Foundation’s long-term strategy.
