Pendle is a Decentralized Finance (DeFi) protocol that enables trading of future yield on yield-generating cryptocurrency assets that utilizes the PENDLE token. Pendle works by packaging income-generating tokens into a standardized format and splits them into principal tokens and yield tokens, allowing the users to trade the underlying asset and its future yields independently. It is valuable for those who want to hedge yield, speculate on yield, or gain more control over interest-bearing positions. Supported assets include staked ETH and yield-bearing tokens. Maturity dates define the date the principal is redeemable and the date the yield ceases to accrue. The PENDLE token is used for governance of the protocol. Pendle is most innovative in its creation of a market for future yields, which enhances the flexibility and composability of income flows.
