Internet Computer (ICP) is a public blockchain platform that allows software, data, and online applications to run directly on decentralized infrastructure. The native token of the network, ICP, runs the network and apps deployed on the network span social media, identity, storage, DeFi, gaming and enterprise tools. ICP is used for governance, staking, fees, incentives, access and infrastructure. Token holders invest ICP in the Network Nervous System to vote on updates and other network choices. Developers turn ICP into cycles and pay for the computing, storage and bandwidth consumed by canister smart contracts. Node operators are rewarded for running the hardware that keeps the network working. In its ecosystem, ICP works as both a governance asset and a resource token. It gives users access to browser-based apps without traditional servers, and gives builders a way to launch services that live fully on-chain. This role makes Internet Computer part of Web3 infrastructure, linking computation, identity, payments, and open application development together.
