About Canton

Canton Network is a privacy-preserving public Layer 1 protocol tailored towards institutional finance. This is a space where banks, asset managers, and all market participants can seamlessly transfer assets and information across various applications connected on the platform in real-time. The native currency of Canton Network is Canton Coin (CC), which is earned via network participation and serves as a medium of exchange within the protocol.  While most blockchains are general-purpose platforms, Canton Network was built specifically with the idea of facilitating confidential transactions in mind. Therefore, only the transacting parties have access to transaction information, although the network remains synchronized. As such, Canton Network can be leveraged to tokenize off-chain assets such as bonds, cash, and equities, settle trades atomically, transfer collateral, and complete other regulated financial operations. From a technical standpoint, Canton Network acts as a network of networks. Each participant runs its own private applications and connects them via the same synchronization layer.
