Circle’s CCTP V2 goes live on Aptos, bringing USDC transfers in seconds

Circle activated Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V2 on Aptos, upgrading the burn-and-mint standard that moves native USDC between blockchains. This rollout replaces the V1 flow already live on Aptos with the same developer surface plus relay support, aimed at treasury, liquidity movement, and trading applications.

A major upgrade for cross-chain USDC

CCTP is Circle’s system for moving USDC across different blockchains. For instance, rather than “wrapping” a token, a common workaround that creates a stand-in version of an asset on another chain, CCTP uses a burn-and-mint model.

The USDC is destroyed on the source chain and freshly minted as native USDC on Aptos, avoiding wrapped assets and the fragmented liquidity they tend to create.

Inbound fast transfers and hooks

The headline upgrade is what Circle calls Inbound Fast Transfers, which cut the arrival time for USDC on Aptos from minutes to just seconds.

For comparison, typical cross-chain transfers from Ethereum to its Layer-2s historically took 13 to 19 minutes.

The system uses “faster-than-finality” settlement, with Circle’s Attestation Service signing the burn within seconds.

Now, speed is not the only gain. The incoming USDC arrives programmable, meaning developers can attach “hooks” that trigger onchain actions the moment funds land.

This means you can automate all the boring post-transfer steps, like auto-depositing into decentralized finance protocols, swapping tokens, or handling treasury moves, without lifting a finger. Combine that with relay support, and builders have a flexible foundation for their cross-chain apps.

Developer continuity and ecosystem impact

If you are a dev already using CCTP elsewhere, you are going to love this. Aptos uses the same building blocks you already know, so you can jump right in without having to relearn everything from scratch. Circle’s V2 contracts and Application Programming Interfaces are built to keep things simple and save you the headache of a complex integration.

The upgrade deepens the link between Aptos and one of crypto’s most widely used stablecoins, giving builders on the network a faster, cleaner way to bring dollars onchain.

Since its inception, CCTP has facilitated over $110 billion in transaction volume across more than 5.3 million cross-chain transfers.

With CCTP V1 set to begin deprecation on July 31, 2026, the Aptos activation brings the network into Circle’s canonical V2 infrastructure.
