Canada is gradually seeing a rise in its crypto userbase as provincial and territorial securities regulators maintain oversight on digital asset players. This week, the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) released a report disclosing that between 2023 and 2026, Canada’s crypto ownership rose from 10 percent to 25 percent, clocking a 15 percent spike in these last three years.

The awareness among crypto investors in Canada is on a steady rise, the survey conducted by the OSC said. Half a portion of new investors said they were sure the platforms they were using were registered entities in Canada. In 2023, only 38 percent crypto investors were checking this metric, the survey showed.

A standout point of concern outlined by the authority, however, pointed that the knowledge about crypto regulations and insurance protection has remained limited among investors.

“Awareness and ownership of stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets remain relatively low, but interest is high among those who are familiar with these products,” the report noted.

The OSC made a point to highlight that it does have resources to assist investors in understanding crypto. A portal called GetSmarterAmoutMoney.ca is where the agency has been posting about crypto-related details.

The reason why agencies like the OSC are ramping up crypto-related informational efforts is because more Canadians have started to believe that digital assets will soon become key elements of the national financial system.

“Among Canadians aware of crypto assets, 38 per cent indicated they were highly likely to purchase crypto assets in the future, up 18 percentage points from 2023,” the report noted.

To compile this report, the OSC surveyed over 2,300 individuals aged above 18 between December 2025 and January 2026. It deduced that while 59 percent of the participants were aware of crypto assets and 25 percent held them.

Crypto players operating in Canada are required to hold a registration with the Canadian Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) as a Money Services Business (MSB). Very recently, stablecoin neo-bank Zoth completed its registration with FINTRAC.
