About Polkadot

Polkadot is a Layer 0 blockchain infrastructure that enables multiple specialized blockchain networks to form a single system. As opposed to restricting developers to work within one chain only, Polkadot provides the opportunity to create specialized parachains that will operate independently while having access to the same mechanisms to coordinate and secure their activities. At the core of the ecosystem lies the Relay Chain, which ensures consensus, finalization, and interchain communications. Additionally, Polkadot has Substrate at its disposal, a mechanism for creating customized blockchain networks and connecting them with the Polkadot infrastructure. Thus, Polkadot is aimed at facilitating interoperability across multiple blockchains and decreasing fragmentation within Web3. DOT is the native currency of Polkadot, which is used in governance, staking, and bonding parachains.
