OriginTrail is a blockchain-based system which enables companies to organize their real world information in a way they can verify and exchange with other company's blockchain systems and enterprise systems. OriginTrail has been built to support applications such as supply chain management, tracking of products (provenance), certification and all types of data which need to be verifiable and interoperable. TRAC is the natively created cryptocurrency on OriginTrail. TRAC powers the networks operational functions, by incentivizing users to operate in accordance with the protocols rules. A user must purchase TRAC to pay the fee for posting, and/or modifying Knowledge Asset(s) into the network. Additionally, a user may utilize TRAC to provide collateral for Node Operators via staking/delegation; thus allowing those Node Operators to participate within the OriginTrail Network. Finally, TRAC facilitates the transfer of value between nodes on the network. Thus, TRAC covers both computation and storage costs associated with using the protocol. The direct correlation between usage of the protocol and economic activity further increases the value of TRAC.  In order for OriginTrail to function properly it requires a decentralized approach to storing, indexing and validating data. Therefore, an organization does not have to rely upon a centralized database in order to find and validate data. This decentralized structure allows TRAC to serve as the underlying utility layer that supports OriginTrails trust building, coordination and data exchange functions.
