About Helium

Helium is a decentralized wireless network that is intended to deliver IoT and mobile connectivity via community-operated hotspots.  It works by allowing users to install Hotspot nodes that provide wireless connectivity and can verify network usage. In addition, the hotspot operators receive rewards to provide coverage and transfer data over the network. This creates a people-centered alternative to conventional telecom infrastructure.  Helium’s native token is HNT, the protocol’s main asset, which is used to incentivize participation and support the network’s economics. HNT is also associated with Data Credits; a method of paying to transfer data on the network.  Helium was initially deployed to a self-sovereign blockchain but was later moved to Solana, with HNT being the primary token. The project is a combination of wireless networking, blockchain incentives, and real-world connectivity in a single system.
