About Celestia

The Celestia protocol is a blockchain network that offers data availability and consensus capabilities for different blockchain systems. TIA tokens are the native cryptocurrency used on Celestia for staking, governance, and transactions. While traditional blockchain systems perform execution, settlement, and data availability operations within a single entity, Celestia offers a modular blockchain system, which allows programmers to develop their blockchains independently from the main system. The proof-of-stake protocol, together with data availability sampling technology, enables users to confirm that data is posted without downloading entire blocks. Interestingly, Celestia operates as a base layer for rollup and application chains, where TIA acts as the security and coordination mechanism.
