MetaMask has become the latest crypto player to foray into the agentic space with a wallet offering tailored to AI needs with a loss-prevention provision. On Thursday, MetaMask said kts Agent Wallet has gone live across blockchains including BNBChain, Optimism, Polygon, Base, and Hyperliquid among others. Founded in 2016, MetaMask has been one of the initial providers of self-custodial wallet services.
Agentic micro-payments have emerged as a growing trend across the Web3 space wherein humans allow AI agents to autonomously execute small payments for ecommerce purchases, subscription renewals, as well as grocery orders.
Building on the momentum, MetaMask said its agentic wallet would work for multiple agent frameworks including Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw, Hermes, OpenCode, Cursor among others.
The wallet has comes with the ability to facilitate autonomous DeFi activities across Hyperliquid and EVM networks, allowing AI agents to tackle trading, swaps, perpetuals, staking, prediction markets, and liquidity provisions.
MetaMask has provided upto $10,000 in loss protection for eligible transactions comprising of trades that still face a loss after passing the built-in transaction simulations, Blockaid’s Transaction Shield threat scanning, and Smart Transactions MEV protection
The humans delegating tasks to AI agents will hold the power to decide how much funds should these AI wallets hold to limit agents from overspending, MetaMask highlighted.
“Instead of forcing agents to work around wallet UX built for manual clicking, Agent Wallet gives them a wallet interface designed for autonomous execution with user-defined constraints,” the platform said.
MetaMask’s foray into the agentic AI space would open the ecosystem to its reported userbase of over a 100 million. For the agent economy, this launch could be a pivotal development as it brings the agentic technology closer to more people.
Agentic AI has visibly gone from being an experimental concept to a real-world infrastructure over the last few months. Autonomous agents are already becoming part of daily planning, transacting, and executing milti-step workflows independently.
This year along, a number of tech and crypto players ventured into the agentic space. Just this week, for instance, Cloudflare debuted its own wallet service for AI agents. Fintech firm Stripe also launched its wallet service for AI agents earlier in April.
While several nations are still working on crypto regulations, the U.S. has taken a lead in building and deploying agentic wallet infrastructures. Companies like Coinbase, Crossmint, Ledger, and MoonPay have also launched their own agentic services this year so far.
