U.S.-based fintech firm Stripe announced a major expansion to its suite of agentic commerce products on Wednesday as part of its three-day Stripe Sessions event at Moscone West in San Francisco. At the event, the platform launched Link, a wallet service that will let AI agents process transactions and trades on behalf of Stripe users.
Announcing Link, Stripe said it will be leveraging the Machine Payments Protocol (MMP) to allow AI agents handle tasks like initiating microtransactions and managing recurring subscriptions. The MMP was launched by Stripe in March as an open-source protocol on its homegrown Tempo blockchain.
“You can now sell through AI agents by uploading your product catalog and managing agent access directly from the Stripe Dashboard with the Agentic Commerce Suite,” Stripe noted.
The wallet will let users store their credentials within the Stripe ecosystem. The platform claimed that these stored payment credentials will “never” be exposed and users will be given the option to approve every initiated transactions.
The platform demonstrated how Link would work on Stripe through a video posted on X alongside the launch announcement.
Patrick Collison, the CEO of Stripe, also joined the conversation on X saying that AI agents will be able to use Link to create “single-use credentials” that users will synchronously get to approve each time.
Given that the AI technology is still evolving, people still lack deep trust on its safety. Stripe said it understood the need for strong guardrails on its AI related products to ensure that automated spendings are not exploited.
In order to distinguish authorized AI agents from fraudelent bots, Stripe reiterated on the upgrades it has added to its Radar service. This could help users dodge potential token abuse, account frauds, and navigate high-risk transactional trials.
“We previewed Radar’s bot abuse prevention, designed to accurately distinguish legitimate AI agents from fraudulent actors,” the announcement said. “We previewed additional payment signals to predict disputes and early fraud warnings, and detect pay-as-you-go abuse before invoices go unpaid with Signals.”
The “Revenue” service from Stripe — that offers tools to automate financial flows, subscriptions, and taxes for its business clients — has also been loaded with more advanced AI capabilities. The service now supports new AI-native business models offering streamlined payments and dimensional pricings.
Stripe said it will be continuing the growth of its stablecoin-related features as well moving forward.
“We previewed the ability for US businesses to use Stripe Crypto Onramp to support headless implementations on web and mobile, custom stablecoins issued through Open Issuance, and a separate KYC mode on transactions up to $500,” it said.
The platform has been experimenting with crypto and stablecoin services for a while now. In March itself, Stripe collaborated with Coinbase’s Base blockchain to start allowing AI agents process USDC settlements.
