BitTorrent (BTT) is the native crypto token of the BitTorrent ecosystem, one of the largest decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing networks in the world.  BitTorrent, once famous for changing the way large files were shared on the internet, allows users to share data directly with each other rather than through centralised servers. Its decentralized architecture has made it a key technology for efficient content distribution on the internet. The BTT token was created to add an economic incentive layer to the BitTorrent network. The idea behind it is to reward users who contribute resources such as bandwidth, storage and faster upload speeds to the ecosystem. The network rewards users who seed files for longer periods of time with BTT as compensation. This improves download performance and makes shared content more reliable and available. This tokenized incentives system turns passive users into active contributors, thereby increasing the efficiency of the overall network. One of the main uses of BTT is in BitTorrent Speed, where users can pay BTT tokens to get faster download speeds from peers who are willing to prioritize their transfers. Seeders are then rewarded with tokens for providing bandwidth and keeping files available. It creates a market place driven model which is good for downloaders as well as uploaders. In addition to file sharing, BTT is also the engine behind the BitTorrent File System (BTFS)—a decentralized storage platform that allows users to rent out their unused hard drive space or purchase distributed storage services. BTFS provides a blockchain alternative to traditional cloud storage providers with lower costs, greater redundancy and censorship resistance.
